Dr. Shan Jumper is the Executive Clinical Director of a program that provides sex offender-specific treatment services in a maximum-security civil commitment treatment facility for sexually violent persons (SVPs). In this role, he manages a multidisciplinary staff of more than 40 specialist clinicians who work collaboratively with state-employed security and direct care personnel to deliver innovative assessments and treatment to a population of 575 SVPs. He oversees the quality of services and confirms the ongoing evolution of the program in response to new research in the field.
Dr. Jumper played a leading role in gaining the first CARF accreditation for an SVP facility and the first APPIC-approved clinical training program specific to SVP treatment. Over the past 20 years, he has hired, trained, and mentored approximately 150 treatment providers who entered the field of sex offense treatment. He has also published or co-published several articles and book chapters in the field and served on boards of directors for sex offender treatment membership organizations for more than 10 years.
Dr. Jumper earned a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Dakota and a Master of Arts from the Loyola University of Chicago. He is President of the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, having also served on the Executive Board of this organization as Secretary and Treasurer. Dr. Jumper is also the past president of the Sex Offender Civil Commitment Programs Network.
